A Mouse Click- Big deal or Not big deal?

We all know that performing many actions on a computer is being done with mouse buttons clicks. It just comes so naturally for many of us that we have not even thought about what it takes to make a single click with a mouse.

One mouse click does not seem to be a big deal but when you do it over and over again all those clicks translate to a lot of work.

Have you ever calculated how many mouse clicks you have to make to do a simple Copy?

If you have not here is a answer. It's 2 clicks and about 2 seconds of time.  To Paste that copied content it's 2 more clicks and about 2 seconds. All together, it's 4 clicks and 4 seconds.

No big deal, right? Make 20 copies and pastes a day. What? 80 clicks and 80 seconds? Make 100 copies/pastes a day and it comes to 400 clicks and 400 seconds (almost 7 minutes). How many a year? I'll let you figure that out.

Searching online often? If you do then you know that majority of the search tasks involve Copy and Paste commands combined with clicking on the action command buttons.

Do you know that It takes at least 6 (often much more) mouse clicks  and about 10- seconds to perform a simple search online via one of the popular search engines?

And that's assuming that you already have search engine search field ready and you simply highlight, copy and paste the keyword phrase you want to search with no manual typing (which will take much longer)

And, obviously, the whole purpose of a search action is to find and open websites listed in a search engine for your keyword phrase.

If you open more than one website from a search engine result it takes 2 clicks to open each site regardless of which way you open it. If you open, let's say, first 3 results it takes 6 clicks and 6 seconds.

So to get final result for your search job takes 12 clicks and about 15 seconds.

And all those numbers are very optimistic. For an average computer user they are much higher.

If you do not believe me then let's do a little test.

Try to search this phrase How to make your computer run faster in google and check out websites listed on the first 3 positions in the search result.

And make sure you count EVERY click you have to make (yes, including mouse right button  clicks) and check the time it will take to get that search result and open each of the first 3 websites (just skip reading them now, of course) listed for that keyword. I bet your numbers are similar to mine or greater.

If you do at least 10 searches a day then it's not difficult to figure out that you have to make at least 60 clicks and spend about 4 minutes of your time just on clicking. That's how much it takes just to get the desired result and that's just for basic search task and in just one search engine.

If you are doing deep online research and you want to check the same keyword phrase in multiple search engines or other web resources (for example, encyclopedia, dictionary, translations, blogs, news, maps, shopping, etc.) it'll come to 100s of clicks and even much greater time to waste on those clicks and a lot of emotional pain associated with such tasks.
